25 Cars Worth Waiting For: 2015–2018

Our guide to the 25 most compelling vehicles coming to market over the next four years.

The eagerly awaited bazooka version of the third-generation Cadillac CTS designed to fight for America’s honor against its European competitors. Unfortunately, this time around, there won’t be a station wagon or a coupe—or a manual option. That’s a crime, but the automatic sedan is what sells

2015 Chrysler 200: Amid All the Buzzwords, Real Buzz

Chrysler's new mid-sizer is among our 25 Cars Worth Waiting For from 2015–2018.

Chrysler uses a pile of buzzwords to describe the all-new 200: “iconic,” “industry first,” etc. It’s as if the Chrysler folks thought they were speaking at TED and not the Detroit auto show. Normally, the car media scoffs at such hyperbole, but buried in all the thought leadership, paradigm shifts, and needle moving lurks something long absent in the company’s mid-size sedan portfolio: bravado. Or, at least, what passes for bravado when you’re launching a Camry competitor with a base price of just $22,695.

Cadillac CTS, Car of the year

One of our readers was kind enough to share this info with us... Dear 001, I have just gotten an embargoed press release(I work in the news biz) naming the 2008 Cadillac CTS the Motor Trend car of the year. The release is embargoed until 12:01a Eastern on November 20, 2007-- but I thought you might like to know. As the proud owner of an '08 CTS DI I could not be happier. Great news for Cadillac but we at the Spies are always skeptical of these type of awards from the major outlets because they rely so heavily on their ads...and Cadillac just ran a HUGE campaign with them. So let us ask you the question...Does the new CTS DESERVE the car of the year award or is the fix in and this one of the best awards money can buy? Here is the list of cars it beat:Audi A5/S5Audi TTChevy MalibuChrysler Town and CountryDodge Grand CaravanDodge AvengerFord FocusFord TaurusHonda AccordMercedes C-ClassMini CooperMitsubishi lancerScion XBScion XDSubaru ImprezaVolvo C30Volvo XC70 In my opinion, the CTS is better than almost everything on the list but it's hard to believe it could beat the A5/S5.001

Swedish racing star Richard Göransson once more took place behind the wheel of the project car "Loaded", and drove lap around the Nürburgring Nordschleife that puts supercars like the Koenigsegg, Pagani and Porsche in the shade. With the time of 7 minutes 22.8 seconds around the 20.6 kilometer long track he was over five seconds faster than the original target of 7 minutes 28 seconds.

It was an utterly fantastic feeling when I saw the time on the display! We have fought hard since 2004 and finally we have reached our target, and then some!" said Göransson.Göransson arrived at the German track on November the 5th with owner and builder of "Loaded" - Anders Fransson. But the day almost ended in tears. On the fastest part of the track, where the speed hits around 300 km/h, the front splitter came off.

SOUND OFF: Why Does Everyone Pick On Toyota?

Toyota Motor Corp which has climbed to second place in the US auto market this year, expects to increase its share of sales in 2008 and is steeling itself to deal with the scrutiny and criticism that have grown along with its prominence. "We have to develop a little bit thicker skin, and understand that that's part of the game we play today," said Jim Lentz, newly appointed president of Toyota Motor Sales USA and the highest-ranking American executive at the Japanese automaker

McLaren Ferrari Espionage Case Takes A New Twist

Those following the drama of the purloined Ferrari documents will recall that a British court proceeding brought by Ferrari against Mike Coughlan and his wife, Trudy, ended rather abruptly with a deal being struck between Coughlan, his wife, and Ferrari. Under the agreement, Coughlan, chief engineer for McLaren, and his wife would provide a detailed affidavit to Ferrari explaining precisely how the Coughlans came into possession of 780 pages of secret Ferrari technical data and drawings. In return, Ferrari agreed it would not provide that affidavit to prosecuting authorities in Italy. Though most of the details remain unclear, some of the information set out in the Coughlan affidavits is leaking out. What’s coming out doesn’t entirely support the claims of innocence repeatedly issued by McLaren, but doesn’t entirely contradict those claims either. According to a report by Martin Brundle in the TimesOnLine website, Coughlan admitted in his affidavit the obvious – that he had possession of the Ferrari documents. No news there. The documents were found in his residence. But he also acknowledged showing them to several of his colleagues at McLaren. According to Coughlan, all of those to whom he showed the documents told him that he should destroy them.
